JOINING TOGETHER AS THE BODY OF CHRIST FROM AROUND THE GLOBE

Village of Hope connects with other organizations to join together with the body of Christ to further the Gospel and bring Kingdom to the unreached people in Toch Village. We feel that there is something very special about joining together with other brothers and sisters in Christ from around the world to share the Great Commission. There are several ways to contribute to the ministries of YDC Kampot

VOLUNTEER – Village of Hope actively partners with Youth With A Mission (YWAM), an evangelical interdenominational, non-profit Christian, missionary organization. YWAM has 1,100 locations in over 180 nations, including Cambodia. Village of Hope’s main connection is to University of the Nations, a YWAM ministry. University of the Nations is an international missionary training school with locations in 160 nations. In connection with University of the Nations, Village of Hope also receives YWAM outreach teams from all over the world. UofN’s training school focuses on teaching students in ministering the love of Christ and later teaching others to make disciples of all nations. Our Youth Development Center, known as YDC Kampot, was established in 2009 by Vuthy, as an extension of University of the Nations Cambodia. Village of Hope also partners with other international Christian organizations, including Adventures in Missions (World Race and World Race Gap Year), Oreda, and a network of churches in Canada & New Zealand.

– Village of Hope desires to continue the expansion of partnerships to further build Christ’s Kingdom in Cambodia. If you are interested in partnering with Village of Hope, either through on-campus volunteer work, prayer or financial giving, we would really love to talk more with you about what that can look like moving forward. Every partnership is needed and very much appreciated.

– We offer living accommodations for visiting teams, and teams interested in volunteering at Village of Hope are welcome to join our community for short or long stays. For more details, please email Vuthy at villageofhope.kampot@gmail.com.

SPONSOR A BUILDING PROJECT – YDC Kampot desires to expand the campus in order to better serve the community of Toch Village. Past building projects have included the construction of the Mercy House, kitchen facilities, classrooms and a water well, which provides school children as well as the entire neighborhood clean water. Hopeful projects for the future include a small pharmacy/clinic, better classroom facilities and a park and playground.

BE A PRAYER WARRIOR & FINANCIAL PARTNER – We value our prayer warriors and financial partners from around the globe and pray for this circle to continue to grow. Besides daily expenses, like electricity, transportation and rent, Village of Hope also pays full-time staff members a small salary and hosts regular Christ-centered community events. We are thankful and blessed by financial partners and one-time donors who have kept Village of Hope growing, thriving and sharing Jesus with Toch Village for more than a decade. For prayer needs, please contact Vuthy at villageofhope.kampot@gmail.com. OUR COMMUNITY

We Proudly Call Toch Village Home

Village of Hope Ministries is located in Toch Village, Chook District, Kampot Province, Cambodia. The small village is roughly two hours south of Phnom Penh, or frankly put, “in the middle of nowhere.” Toch Village is home to our ministry founder, Vuthy, and his family, among 2,500 other people. In 2009, when Vuthy returned to his native home, he was the only Christian influence across the entire village. Now, 10 years later, an estimated 95% of the village still identifies with Buddhism, but 2% of the village has grown to identify with Christianity, while the remainder is represented by agnostics or people who believe there to be no existence of God.

Toch Village is a beautiful picture of God’s creation, offering an environment that is as refreshing to the eyes as it is to the lungs! Everywhere you turn there is an abundance of palm, coconut and mango trees, and past the trees you will see beautiful mountain ranges stretching across the skyline. God displays more of his creation every evening by painting the most beautiful sunsets with radiant hues of purples, pinks, oranges, and blues. Navigating through the village down the orange dirt roads, you will be passed by entire families on motorbikes, kids riding bicycles, and cows being walked by their owners. Most families live in houses raised on stilts, so they stretch hammocks across every square inch of the space underneath. As Cambodia is well known for its extreme heat and humidity, the hammocks are the perfect location to escape the hot sun, take a nice nap – or enjoy a free sauna!

Toch Village is full of traditions. We welcome you to experience our culture with us!

Khmer culture runs thick among Toch Village people. The local culture is extremely communal, family-oriented, and welcoming. We value honor and seek to honor our families in all we do. Our cuisine consists of many delicious meals that almost always include a kick of spice, and one of our favorite foods is a rice soup called “borbora” in Khmer. Also, it is very common – and fun – to get drinks in a bag. Some refreshing drinks that can be found on almost any road in Cambodia are sugar cane juice, tea, and iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk. The people in Toch Village also love traditions. One entertaining Cambodian tradition, that locals like to call mud fishing, happens annually across Toch Village during the dry season. During this time, families drain their ponds in order to water fields and animals. After the water has been removed from the pond, everyone eagerly jumps in the mud to catch the fish that remain!
